Concept
We want you to have the best tempura experience in Japan.
We want our customers to feel comfortable interacting with us in English, even at an unfamiliar counter tempura restaurant, without feeling nervous.
In order to realize this concept, reservations can be made six times a day.
Lunch: 12:00, 1:00, 2:00
Dinner:5:00, 6:00, and 7:00 p.m.
*If seats are available, you can come without a reservation.
We offer only two menus, “SAKURA Omakase” which includes seafood and “Vegetable Omakase,” and no other menus.
The meal begins with a toast for all.
There is a unique presentation that can be done by having everyone start eating at the same time, and it is the story that allows you to enjoy tempura to the fullest.
For this reason, please come to the elevator hall on the 7th floor 10 minutes before your reservation.
Seats are switched every hour, so courses are served in 50 minutes.
Combined with sightseeing in Asakusa, the course content can be thoroughly enjoyed even in a short time.
Two to three kinds of tempura will be served every 5 to 10 minutes.
Please enjoy the freshly fried tempura while communicating with the staff.
Characteristics of our restaurant
Commitment to Tempura.
The meals are completely gluten-free, using no wheat flour at all. By using rice flour instead of wheat, we create crispy tempura with a light texture unlike any other.
In addition, a special frying method allows the batter to absorb only half the normal amount of oil. This makes it a very healthy and delicious special tempura. For oil, we use vegetable oil made from a proprietary blend of aromatic white sesame oil and rapeseed oil.
We are a Muslim-friendly restaurant that does not use meat and uses different glasses of alcohol.
The tempura sauce contains a very small amount of wheat flour. If you have allergies, please enjoy tempura with salt.
*Not Ḥarāl certified. Muslim Friendly certification is pending (May 2024).
Philosophy
In Japan, there is a culture called “Hanami” in which everyone gathers under the cherry trees in spring to eat and drink.
At Tempura Asakusa SAKURA, we want to be a restaurant that can provide the culture of Hanami all year round.
I would like to share a memory with you.
When I was in elementary school, my mother took me on a trip to Europe. The most memorable restaurant of the trip was an ordinary small Spanish restaurant in the countryside of Spain.
In the days before smartphones, we could not read the Spanish menu, so the chef showed us whether the dish was pork or chicken.
We enjoyed communicating and eating with the local customers who were in the restaurant, laughing with our stomachs at the sight of them.
I would like to share with you some of those “delicious” and “fun” moments.
We hope that everyone who visits Tempura Asakusa SAKURA will have a memorable and enjoyable time. That is our highest wish.
We not only enjoyed the food, but also the emotional moment of the meal.

The first appetizer is a comparison of three types of tofu. Beginning with the soy milk tofu, which allows you to enjoy the flavor of the tofu’s ingredients, you will be served in turn with sesame tofu and yuba tofu with julienne.
The first plate of tempura consists of senjyu leeks with scallion salt, pecoros with green tea salt, and shiitake mushrooms with truffle salt.
The second dish, tempura, consists of two kinds of seasonal vegetables.
The third dish, the SAKURA omakase course, is three kinds of seafood. The tiger prawns served with seafood are freshly procured every day and are tied up in the restaurant. The squid is smoked with cherry chips to add aroma, and the batter is kneaded with charcoal for a savory finish. There is another seasonal seafood dish.
In the vegetable omakase course, three more kinds of seasonal vegetables are offered only to those who ordered the vegetable omakase course.
The fourth and final dish is our famous tempura, made with thick-sliced sweet potato and carrot kakiage.
The thickly sliced sweet potato is deep-fried for a long time and steamed for about 40 minutes to bring out the sweetness, making the tempura look like a sweet treat.
On top of the squid is a colorful layer of shredded carrot kakiage (deep-fried carrots).
The carrots are not seasoned in any way, but you can enjoy the sweetness of the carrots themselves by eating them as they are.
And to end the meal, we serve rice to finish it off.
For those who have the SAKURA course, we serve our special egg rice, and for those who have the vegetable omakase course, we serve wasabi rice.
